The Sunday Sundries Edit: Things You Might Enjoy September 8, 2024

Lüften! We should all embrace the Germans’ love of fresh air. I appreciate that even hotels in Germany have windows open. A sharp contrast to the hermetically sealed buildings of the US.

This was interesting! Can we bring back the beguinage? These were areas in some medieval villages where spiritual laywomen could live in safety and independence, little “havens of tranquility.” Sign me up. I’ll bring the wine (but skip the vow of chastity. And the religion.)

This is a great guide for a weekend in New Orleans. I’ve been there several times for work, but only once for fun- Mardi Gras 2020. We all know how things went after that. I would recommend adding in a walking tour* or ghost tour* if you can. (*affiliate)

I didn’t do anything silly to earn these beads.

I had some aging bananas on the counter and the Kitchenaid had been pulled out for another recipe, so this was the perfect opportunity to make Love and Lemon’s delicious banana bread recipe. 10/10 would make again. Next time I think I’m going to live on the wild side and add some walnuts.

Have you always wanted to learn to golf or are you a novice golfer looking for an inclusive, beginner-friendly way to improve your skills and make some friends? Check out Women on Course! They are in a lot of metro areas and offer clinics, coordinate rounds of golf at member pricing, and hosts social events. I’ve had a great experience here in the Bay Area.

What I’m reading:
Emma by Jane Austin. Struggling with this one a bit. I know the story. I know it is a parody of British high society. I just find it boring.
Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. This has been on my TBR for years and I was inspired by a recent trip to Chicago to finally pick it up. 1893. Chicago is hosting the World’s Fair- a time to put the US on the map as a leader in industry and architecture. A serial killer used the fair to lure his victims. Terror ensues. I’m not super far into it, but it is very compelling so far.
The Game Changer by Lana Ferguson. I gave into the hockey romance craze and was not disappointed. I was looking for something light and fluffy and this hit the bill. This is a “fake dating” story of woman who is a host of a TV baking show and a her brother’s teammate and BFF. Appearing to date is mutually beneficial and sparks (and pucks) fly. Not a literary masterpiece by any means, but thoroughly enjoyable brain candy spend a few afternoons with.
